Do It Today Summary (Plus PDF)

Do It Today by Darius Foroux

Darius Foroux author of Do It Today is a blogger and has shared lots of things about productivity on his website, now, the same things have been repeated in this book too but in a structured way, sometimes, it feels like you’re reading articles.

Nonetheless, it’s a short and sweet motivation book that will charge you up to focus more on your goals and health.

Life’s Last Edit by Rahul Makwana

Think of it as a self-help bible—not just a collection of lessons, but a guide to transforming your life.

Do It Today Summary

Personally, I didn’t learn much from the Do It Today but I did learn how you can convert your blog posts into a book in a smart way, just like how Ankur Warikoo did with his Do Epic Shit Book.

I hope to write a book on self-help and as you gusseted it, I will copy everything from this website… (that was a joke, or was it…)

Nonetheless, let’s talk about some of the key takeaways from the book.

  • Not Tomorrow, Do it Today.
  • Stay away from the smartphone, use it when necessary.
  • Don’t blame others for your mistakes.
  • Do Exercise every day, make a habit, and lastly make a routine out of it.
  • Accept procrastination and focus on your dream.
  • Always take a vacation whether it’s small or big, if needed.
  • Add Compounding to your life.
  • You don’t have to read every single self-help book (this is from my side, wink wink).

Now, let’s take a deep dive and explore what author wants you to do in life.

I’m keeping my promise, this is the mini-ebook of Do It Today by Darius Foroux. So download right now and read wherever you want for free. Happy Reading.

Accept Procrastination and Focus on Your Dream

One of the best books written on procrastination is Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, the book has everything that you need to know to manage your time and life.

Coming back to the Do it Today…

Let’s say, you want to do exercise today at 7:00 but when that time comes, you will say, I have that work or I’m tired, so I will do exercise tomorrow at 9:00 AM.

Now, when tomorrow comes, you will say again, I have that or this work to do but this time, I will do exercise at 5:00 PM no metter what.

You’re just delaying those tasks that you’re supposed to do, this is what Procrastination means. You’re giving an excuse to do something else.

Talking about myself, I have given lots of excuses for exercise, reading, delaying work tasks, and many other things but when I understood why I was delaying tasks, that’s when I started doing what I was supposed to do in the first place.

Delaying your task won’t do much, you delay the tasks because you feel, that watching movies, playing games, and going outside with friends is more important than reading books or exercising.

The only thing you have to do is, tell yourself, that reading books or exercising is more important than wasting time on movies.

Just exercise for 10 minutes every day for 30 days and your mind will automatically adopt that habit and you will automatically focus on your goals rather than watching movies, playing games, and going outside with friends.

Your mind is very simple, it will always do the things that make you happy. It won’t do exercise every day because doing exercise every day won’t release dopamine as much as drinking a cup of coffee or watching p*rn.

Just understand, how your mind works… but how, just monitor what you do all day, and you will get all of your answers.

If you’re curious about habits then make sure to read Atomic Habits by James Clear.

Stay Away From The Smartphone, Use it When Necessary

When I was reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, one thing I learned was, you don’t need a smartphone to live…

That’s what I did about 4 months ago, I stopped using a smartphone for entertainment.

I’m using social media on my PC to post Videos on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The reason I’m using social media is because my work requires it.

I also use YouTube when I’m stuck somewhere. For example, my TV is showing a green tint and I don’t know the reason behind it, so I will search the same on YouTube to see the solution.

I don’t watch YouTube for entertainment. There are tons of things in life to get entertained, spend time with your family, go outside with your friends, or take a small vacation.

We feel that a smartphone is a necessity but it’s not, it’s a tool for work and you need to use it for time-pass.

I didn’t add this habit in 4 months, it took me 3 years to get where I am today.

It’s quite hard to convince yourself that from now on, you don’t need a smartphone.

You do it for the day, a week, and then back to zero.

You will start using smartphones again and again but one day, you will understand that I actually don’t need a smartphone in my life to get entertained.

You Don’t Have to Read Every Single Self-Help Book

Let’s make this very simple and short,

Almost all self-help books talk about the same thing but with a different perspective but the core idea will remain the same.

Related: Are Self-Help Books a Waste of Time?

For Example, most of the self-help book will have

  • Don’t Set Goals, Work on Your Habits.
  • Don’t think about what people say, Focus on Your Self
  • Don’t use Social Media for Entertermenet
  • Sleep 8 Hours a Day
  • Read Books
  • Do Exercise every day
  • Health is Wealth
  • And, you’re responsible for your actions.

That’s what you will learn when you sit to read a new self-help book. So to make things easy for you, I’m recommending you a few books that you should read and after that, you don’t have to read another self-help book ever.

  1. Atomic Habits by James Clear
  2. The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson
  3. The Courage To Be Disliked
  4. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
  5. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

That’s it go read it if you haven’t already.

Do It Today Lessons

  • No matter what you’re doing in your life, you do have 30 minutes that you can spend on your health. So make sure you exercise, go for a walk, read a book, and maybe do meditation for a few minutes every day.
  • Life is not a race, so whenever possible stop and see everything from a different perspective about what you’re doing in your life at this moment and where you want to reach.
  • Always focus on those tasks that are very important in your life whether it’s working on a project, writing a book, or even writing articles like this for your website.
  • Procrastination won’t go away by itself, you have to step up and tell yourself that, this is it and from today, I will do what is necessary for life.
  • Your mistakes are your mistakes, no one will point a gun on your head to fail at some time. So own your mistakes and learn from them because that’s the only way to move forward.

Do It Today Review

It’s not a must-read book, you can skip it. However, if you’re a fan of Darius Foroux then give it a try you will like it but if you have already read the Atomic Habits then I would recommend you to stay away from the Do it Today book.

It’s another self-help book that another author has written and there is no need to read it if you have already read a few self-help books.

FYI, it’s a simple read, so if you’re one of those people who have never read a single self-help book then give it a read and I’m sure, you will enjoy reading it.
