Do It Today Summary and Review
Darius Foroux author of the Do it Today book is a blogger and he has shared lots of things about productivity on his website, now, the same things have been repeated in this book too but in a structured way, sometimes, it feels like you’re reading articles. Nonetheless, it’s a short and sweet motivation book that will charge you up to focus more on your goals and health.
Do It Today Quotes
“Life doesn’t stop. And every single second, we’re getting closer to death.”
“Think of yourself as dead. You have lived your life. Now take what’s left and live properly.”
“For example, one of my personal rules is this: Never complain. Another one is: Read and exercise every day. And: Close the day every evening by setting your next day’s priorities.”
Let me first say thank you for reading this. This will be a weekly newsletter, hope you enjoy it. Now I will see you every Sunday at 9:00 AM (IST).
Do It Today Summary
Personally, I didn’t learn much from the Do It Today book but I did learn how you can convert your blog posts into a book in a smart way, just like how Ankur Warikoo did with his Do Epic Shit Book.
I hope to write a book on self-help and as you gusseted it, I will copy everything from this website… (that was a joke, or is it…)
Nonetheless, let’s talk about some of the key takeaways from this book and explore more…
- Not Tomorrow, Do it Today
- Stay away from the smartphone, use it when necessary
- Don’t blame others for your mistakes
- Do Exercise every day, make a habit, make routine
- Accept procrastination and focus on your dream
- Always take a vacation whether it’s small or big, you needed.
- Add Compounding to your life
- You don’t have to read every single self-help book (this is from my side, wink wink)
Accept Procrastination and Focus on Your Dream
One of the best books written on procrastination is Eat That Frog by Brian Tracy, it’s everything you need in life if you’re struggling.
Back to the Do it Today…
Let’s say, you want to do exercise today at 7:00 but when that time comes, you will say, I have that work or I’m tired, so I will do exercise tomorrow at 9:00 AM. Now, when tomorrow comes, you will say again, I have that or this work to do, this time for sure, I will do exercise at 5:00 PM.
Procrastination means repeating the same thing again & again and giving an excuse to do something else.
Talking about myself, I have given lots of excuses for exercise, reading, delaying work tasks, and many other things but when I understand why I was delaying tasks, that’s where I started doing what supposed to do in the first place.
Delaying your task won’t do much, you delay the tasks because you feel, watching movies, playing games, and going outside with friends are more important than reading books or exercising.
The only thing you have to do is, tell yourself, reading books or exercising is more important than wasting time on movies.
Just exercise for 10 minutes every day for 30 days, your mind will automatically adopt the habit and you will automatically focus on your goals rather than watching movies, playing games, and going outside with friends.
Your mind is very simple, it will always do the things that make you happy. It won’t do exercise every day because doing exercise every day won’t release dopamine as much as drinking a cup of coffee or watching porn.
Just understand, how your mind works… but how, just monitor what you do all day, and you will get all of your answers.
If you’re curious about habits then make sure to read Atomic Habits by James Clear
Stay Away From The Smartphone, Use it When Necessary
When I was reading The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, one thing I learn is, you don’t need a smartphone to live…
That’s what I did about 4 months ago, I stopped using a smartphone, and I bought a feature phone where I can only receive and make calls. No internet…
I’m using social media on my PC to post Videos on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. The reason I’m using social media is that my work requires it.
I also use YouTube too when I’m stuck somewhere. For example, my TV is showing a green tint and I don’t know the reason behind it, so I will search same on YouTube to see the solution.
I don’t watch YouTube for entertainment. There is tons of thing in life to get entertained, spend time with your family, go outside with your friends, or take a small vacation.
We feel that a smartphone is a necessity but it’s not, it’s a tool for work and you need to use it for work.
I didn’t add this habit in 4 months, it took me 3 years to get where I’m today.
It’s quite hard to convince yourself that from now, you don’t need a smartphone. You do it for the day, a week, and then back to zero. You will start using smartphones again and again but one day, you will understand that I actually don’t need a smartphone in your life to get entertained.
You Don’t Have to Read Every Single Self-Help Book
Let’s make this very simple and short,
Almost all self-help book talks about the same thing but with a different perspective but the core idea will remain the same.
For Example,
- Don’t Set Goals, Work on Your Habits.
- Don’t think about what people say, Focus on Your Self
- Don’t use Social Media for Entertermenet
- Sleep 8 Hours a Day
- Read Books
- Do Exercise every day
- Health is Wealth
- And, you’re responsible for your actions.
Now, I’m recommending you only five books that you should read and after that, you don’t have to read any self-help books ever.
- Atomic Habits by James Clear
- The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson
- The Courage To Be Disliked
- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
That’s it go read it if you haven’t already.
Do It Today Review
It’s not a must-read book, you can skip it. However, if you’re a fan of Darius Foroux then give it try you will like it but if you have already read the Atomic Habits then I would recommend you to stay away from the Do it Today book.
