Ego Is the Enemy Book Summary

The thing with overnight success is, that most people don’t know how to handle it.

They might feel different, they might think differently, they might treat people differently, and they might spend money differently.

Now, this is that time when one should observe, it could be your friends, people around you, and even yourself.

Don’t get carried away with money, emotion, people, house, or anything else.

Nothing has changed, you are what you were a day ago, you’re breathing the air, and you’re eating food.

When you have money, you might buy a big house, eat-in big restaurant or go to a different country for a vacation that’s it, your body won’t change, your thought might change and this is what you need to observe.

  • When we remove ego, we’re left with what is real
  • There’s Always More to Learn

  • Its never too let to ask questions and start something new

Lesson 1: Get Out of Your Own Mind

There will be a time in your life when you will think, I know everything, why should I learn more.

This is that time when you should spend more time with yourself and find out why you’re thinking like that.

It’s never late to ask questions even to yourself.

No one knows everything, people are learning every day and so can you. Learn every day, ask questions to yourself, and to other people, and don’t make the same mistakes in the future.

This is the only way to progress, there is no other way around it.

Lesson 2: Make it so you don’t have to fake it—that’s the key

You might have heard “Fake until you make it”.

Yep, don’t do that, this will add another layer to your mind and you will think about it every day, don’t get into that trap.

If you want to archive your goals then do it, don’t lie about it.

If you believe in yourself, and in your goals then you will finish it one day.

Don’t go outside and say, I have archive everything in my life, this will give stress and anxiety till you finish your goals.

Lesson 3: When we remove ego, we’re left with what is real

Let’s say, you think, you have everything from money to a pretty wife.

One day, one random guy come to you and say, I have more money than you, I have a prettier wife than yours, I have a better life than yours.

Now, ask yourself, what will come to your mind first?

Here, what the author is trying to say is,

Forget about that random person and be happy with what you have, and don’t get jealous of that person.

I know, it’s hard to do but hey, this will make you free and you will be able to live your life without any problems.

The author is a Stoic. I am also trying to be a Stoic in my life. Stoicism is something which helped in my bad times. The basic concept of it : don’t bother about things you can’t control .
